About…
… “havahula?” Sure, let’s start there:
I got started working on the web because I needed a website to sell my custom-made hula hoops. Have-a-hula, so to speak.
Really.
That’s how it typically starts for all of us, right? We have a problem we want to solve, someone suggests the Internet and there you are… wandering about and figuring it out as you go.
So, I wandered for awhile through the start-ups of the late 90’s dotcom boom & bust, worked inside the convergence of media in both video and audio and then arrived inside the social mission revolution that is currently underway. I learned as I went and made a habit of integrating each new skill into a framework of skills, which I applied to storytelling and sensemaking.
I have an educational background in architecture, creative writing and video documentary and I’ve worked as an information architect, a designer, a producer, a developer, a bartender, a waiter and, of course, I made hulahoops. From the beginning “havahula” has changed as I’ve changed — at times a consulting platform, other times a space to experiment — but for now, it’s going to be a bit more conscious in helping me think through trends I care about… in three paragraphs or less.
As of May 1, 2009 you can find me at a new startup I’m working on.
